60 Weird But Genius Things On Amazon With A Cult Following

When it comes to the weirdest products on Amazon, you’d be surprised by just how many of them have straight up fan clubs. Take a look through some of the reviews sections and you’ll see what I mean. You’ll spot long, six-paragraph testimonials about shoe deodorizers or literal odes to lunch boxes and foot files. Lots of these products with serious cult followings fall into the category of what I call “weird but genius.” These items may be ordinary in concept — things like pillows, baking mats, broom organizers — but there’s something about them that stands out and makes them bizarrely effective. Sometimes of these fascinating finds are uniquely built to work better than their generic counterparts. A hair brush, for example, with extra short bristles so you can’t grab too much hair and pinch yourself. Or a sweater shaver that removes lint so you don’t have to use those gross sticky rollers. Other times it’s an innovative formula that simply does the job better than most. A shampoo that gives you extra voluminous hair or a facial toner that really gets your skin glowing. All of the items on this list I’ve put together hav...

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) are the two most common types of

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) are the two most common types of welding practised in automotive applications. This month’s column will serve as an introduction to both types, for anyone wanting to jump in and have a crack themselves, using the most common of auto body metals: 1mm mild sheet steel. A good helmet is right up there on the list of priorities, and like most things, you get what you pay for. This is one piece not to skimp on, as anyone who has suffered from welder’s flash will attest – you only get one set of eyes. Wearing fitted gloves and long sleeves will also help you avoid being burnt when TIG welding, but the real beauty of TIG is the lack of spatter, meaning you can wear shorts and thongs like a true-blue Aussie. 1. For MIG-welding 1mm sheet steel, 0.6-0.8 MIG wire is ideal. Thicker wire will work, but when tacking, the wire will not have enough time to properly melt, leaving poor penetration. It’s highly recommended to not use gasless wire on automotive applications, in order to avoid porous welds. 2. With TIG filler rod, the thickness will depend on the job, and if you’re filling a gap, anything from a piece of 0.6 MIG wire to 1mm filler ...

Sage the Smart Oven Air Fry works well as a supplementary oven or a small household

Sage the Smart Oven Air Fry works well as a supplementary oven or a small household standalone, but can be less practical than a simple air fryer. However, if you want air frying plus a whole lot more besides, it delivers, essentially functioning as a speedy compact oven that can turn out pizza and roasted chicken in a flash, or slow-cook tasty dinners to come home to. Air fryers have almost become a kitchen staple and it’s easy to see why. They are great at turning out low-fat chips and other treats for the health-conscious, and can slash oven cooking times in half. However, they often lack capacity, an issue that can lead to mixed results. Aiming to put an end to singed or soggy suppers, Sage the Smart Oven Air Fry has a different approach to air frying. Rather than an upright configuration, it takes the form of a small freestanding oven, complete with a single shelf, a wide, shallow air frying basket, a pizza pan and a grill pan. This means that food can be spread out so hot air reaches every part of it, rather than being heaped up and shaken throughout cooking to even out the results. Air frying is a fast way to cook, but it can be imprecise – especially when you factor in l...

3 Phase Solar : What you need to know before buying.

YPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd”> There is an awful lot of confusion (and misinformation) out there about the practicalities of installing solar on a house that has a 3 phase supply. So I’ve written this post to clear up the confusion. Connecting solar power to a 3 three-phase supply is entirely possible. But you need to decide how you are going to connect your solar system to the grid. Your 3 options are: Now that Feed In Tariffs are generally between 6 and 10c per kWh, compared to an electricity price of 30c or more , naturally people installing solar want to self consume as much of their solar energy as possible and minimise the flow of exported solar electricity. So most of the emails I get these days about 3 phase worry that if they choose option 1 they will lose out. They worry that any electricity they use on the 2 phases that are not connected to solar will all be imported at 30c per kWh no matter how much solar they are generating on the solar phase . I have personally never seen an installation where this happens. All the 3 phase meters that I have seen take ...

2020 Mercedes CLA-Class Debuts With Svelte Shape, 221 HP On Tap [UPDATE]

The teasers are finally over, and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is here after an unveiling at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sedan’s new generation will arrive in late 2019, and Mercedes will announce pricing info closer to launch. When it goes on sale in the U.S., the little four-door is only available as the CLA250 with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Buyers can choose between front- or all-wheel drive. The mill produces 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque, which is quite an upgrade over the turbo 2.0-liter in the A220 sedan with 188 hp (140 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm).  For now, Mercedes isn’t offering many performance details for the 2020 CLA beyond its electronically limited top speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour). The latest CLA-Class grows a little over the previous generation. Overall length is up 1.9 inches (48 millimeters) to 184.6 inches (4,688 mm), and the wheelbase increases by 1.1 inches (30 mm) to 107.4 inches (2,729 mm). The company also pushes out the wheel tracks by stretching them 2.5 inches (63 mm) at the fron...

Quanta Reportedly Supplying Apple With ‘Autonomous Driving Solutions’

It’s equipped with a larger sensor that is able to let in more light, allowing for brighter photos when the light is low. Apple is separating the new smartphones into its usual low-cost versus high-cost categories, with big differences between the two models coming down to the camera, display, and battery life. At first glance, the two devices have quite a few similarities, but the iPhone 11 takes a step forward in regards to cameras, battery life, and more. One of iOS 13′s major new features is a systemwide Dark Mode option, which matches the Dark Mode feature we got in macOS Mojave ...

Lenovo Smart Display 10 Review: When Smart Gadgets Have a Great Personality Too

The Lenovo Smart Display 10 is finally here. And we can safely say that Amazon’s Alexa powered Echo Show now truly has some competition. Belatedly, Google Assistant is providing Amazon Alexa with some competition in the smart display stakes. Not soon after Google launched the Nest Hub in India (around Rs 9,999) which was the first time a Google Assistant and Android Things powered smart display arrived on our shores, Lenovo has jumped into the fray with the Smart Display 10. Foundations remain the same, be it the Lenovo Smart Display 10, the Google Nest Hub or the Amazon Echo Show. There is a virtual assistant at your beck and call, ready to provide you with the answers to your queries and all the worldly wisdom you may want, and there is a sufficiently large display that adds a visual element to some of those responses. The Lenovo Smart Display 10 is priced at Rs 13,999 and that means it costs a lot lesser than the Amazon Echo Show (around Rs 22,999). That is a good start. But what else? What really is a smart display? Well, it is like a smart speaker, except that it also has a display. That display real estate comes in handy as a bedside alarm clock, for viewing videos, for us...

Tube chaos expected on Thursday as XR target London Underground

The climate activist group has announced it is going to expand its protest to the Tube service and has warned workers ‘to not intervene’. A statement directed at London Underground Staff on its website says: ‘On 17 October, several XR affinity groups (autonomous civil disobedience groups) are planning to non-violently disrupt Tube services to highlight the Climate and Ecological Emergency. ‘In any other circumstances these groups would never dream of disrupting the Tube but this is an emergency.’ XR said it hoped the action would force the Government to come to the table and negotiate its demands and warned disruption would rapidly increase the longer protests continued. The statement also claimed the police and RMT union had been told about the action in order to ensure it was carried out peacefully. XR added: ‘The actions have been designed to be as safe as possible for both participants, passengers and workers. ‘Participants will peacefully break the law in order to stop the Tube and then will wait to be arrested.’ Transport for London (TfL) has advised commuters to allow plenty of time for their journeys and check before they travel on Thursday. A spokesperson said: ‘We are...

Tales From the Dark Side: Putting Car Tires on Motorcycles

Have you ever found yourself unwittingly in the middle of a heated religious or political debate between two vehemently opposed participants? Not since the dispute over conventional oil vs. synthetic oil have I seen such polarized and passionate opinions in the motorcycle world. The question is, unlike the face off over the slippery stuff, could this practice by those known as “Dark Siders” actually be a dangerous one? “I’m interested in signing up for one of your Stayin’ Safe training tours,” the email began. “But before I register, I want to make sure it’s OK to participate if I have a car tire mounted on my Gold Wing.” A what? Did he say a “car tire?” I have to admit I had never heard of such a thing. Nor could I fathom why anyone would want to do it. As difficult as it is for me to turn any rider away who is interested in improving his or her skills, my response was, “I’m afraid we have to say no.” I was concerned about the potential risk for this rider and others on the tour—especially knowing our tour would include some tight and technical mountain back roads with switchbacks. My decision to turn this rider away (along with a handful of his riding buddies) was based on my ...
